Discover Derbyshire and the Peak District in Style
Fischer’s – Baslow Hall is a place that we is simply had to recommend to you for a few reasons.
Firstly, it is set in the midst of glorious Derbyshire countryside in the heart of the Peak District, which has some of the most stunning scenery in the UK. (I admit to being Derbyshire born and bred but I am only slightly biased – ask anyone who has visited.) Secondly, this beautiful hotel is an award-winning foodie paradise serving imaginative modern British food at its inventive, eclectic best. Get your forks out!
This Grade II listed manor house has been transformed into a stunning, family-run, 11 bedroomed luxury hotel. Each room has its own unique character and is decked out with huge comfortable beds and top quality bedding. Bathrooms come with all the usual lovely luxuries; white waffle robes, sumptuous white towels and lemongrass-scented toiletries.
The overall feel is traditional but homely, classic yet intimate, making it a really relaxing place to stay. The fire is usually roaring away in the lounge on wintery days, and the landscaped gardens are stunning for a walk around with a glass of wine.
Set in five acres of well-designed grounds that include, Fischers-Baslow Hall also has a thriving kitchen garden. All the dishes from the Michelin starred kitchen use home-grown vegetables. We were told that even the honey is from the garden hives.
If you fancy an extra special treat and a true gourmet experience you can even book ‘The Kitchen Bench’ and watch Head Chef, Rupert Rowley, cooking up a storm, whilst you enjoy his tasting menu. This is now on our ‘must-do’ list.
Lots to Do.
There is so much to do in the area, far more than you could ever fit into one weekend. Highlights include Chatsworth House (see DO for the current exhibitions on offer), walking some of the dramatic scenery surrounding the area and visiting the historical local villages of Eyam, Castleton and Bakewell (grab a pudding, not a tart- whilst you’re there, and no the real ones don’t have icing on)
Fischers @ Barlow Hall is definitely a dining destination and we can see no better to reason than that to book a luxurious weekend or break away. You must have something to celebrate?
Bed and breakfast rates (available Sunday to Thursday only) are £230 per room. On Fridays and Saturdays dinner, bed and breakfast starts at £386 per room.
If you would prefer exclusive use of a secluded romantic rural cottage then you can rent Cruck Barn. This beautifully restored ancient building is just a short drive from Baslow Hall. From £300 for 3 nights.
