Sit back and relax – we’ve got the armchair low down this month. We love armchairs because they are one of the most practical and versatile pieces of furniture that can transform any room without costing the earth.  With so much choice out there there are a few things you should consider before purchasing your perfect pew.

First and foremost think about the size of your space.  A high backed wing chair will look enormous in a tight space but spectacular if it has room to breath. Measure and measure again before you buy to make sure it fits. Will you want to curl up in it? If so make sure it has a good seat width.

Style & Comfort

Next up you need to nail down what style you are after. Do you prefer modern, traditional, mid century or Art Deco?  Should it have arms? (as in an armchair – funny that) or would you rather a more casual side chair. Is the chair for cosy nights with a book, to sit and socialise or to fit a more functional space in a bedroom? Veering towards a more classical style will help to future proof it’s longevity.

When it comes to fabrics think about your lifestyle: does it need to be practical for pets or sticky fingered children? (there goes the creamy white option then). And if the chair is for a more grown up room then luxurious velvets or soft cottons would provide rich opulence. Wool is a great option if you are looking for a more traditional cosy feel or go bold with patterns and colours to make a statement.

Be Inspired

If you are still stuck for inspiration try to complement other existing furniture without being too matchy matchy.  If selecting your chair to work in a living room try to make sure the chair and sofa heights match up as closely as possible to create a streamlined look. Sometimes a simple cushion colour or accessory will  inspire you to select the perfect shade or fabric. In terms of price, the sky is the limit but as always you pay for quality!
