It is always a conundrum. What to give the kids to snacks on that won’t ruin their appetitive or rot their little teeth. We may have discovered the answer. These INGENIOUS little snack-ets (aptly named apple rings & things) were discovered by chance when we were experimenting with our usual peanut butter and apple slices. We decided to core the apples and add whatever we had in the cupboard (note – marmite on apple is an acquired taste – the Love it Hate it mantra being a consistent theme).

This is not even a recipe, more an idea. Raid the cupboards for spreads and honey, nuts, sprinkles and the like and you are away. Oh and also it keeps them entertained for a while too.

That’s not to say that these are kid-only treats. Absolutely not. Whilst a nutella loaded apple slice may not be the healthiest snack in the land, it is certainly better than a slice of toast or a digestive. An apple a day……..

What You Need

  • Apples, cold and cored.
  • Spreads – honey, almond butter, peanut butter, nutella etc
  • Toppings – chopped almonds or hazelnuts, chia seeds, raisins, choc chips, sprinkles

What To Do

  1. Core Apples.
  2. Cut into rings.
  3. Add different spreads and toppings to each one.
  4. Become obsessed with trying different toppings.
  5. Eat.
  6. Repeat.

The only downside (upside?) to our yummy apple rings is that they do not keep well, even in the fridge. Oh well. have to eat them all in one go then.

Nutella and hazelnut sprinkles

Almond butter with extra chopped almonds


Runny honey and raisins

Peanut butter and a teeny spread of strawberry jam

Nutella and white chocolate chips

Runny honey and chai seeds
