For all of the joys of Winter (duvet days, comfort food, hot chocolate and great reads) the downsides are that the cold, damp weather outside versus fluctuating central heating all take a toll on our skin. No one aspires to look pinched and frosty like the Snow Queen so to make sure you’ve got your skincare needs covered here are our top tips for Winter Skincare so that you can skip into Spring with a bright, glowing complexion.
Step 1. Exfoliation
The first step is to exfoliate thoroughly. Exfoliating removes dead and flaky skin creating a perfect base so that all your other beauty efforts won’t be wasted. It will also smooth and balance your overall complexion.
Step 2. Use a super-hydrating Moisturiser
In Winter you need to up your game on moisturising and switch to a heavier, thicker and more hydrating cream. This will create a barrier to protect the skin from the elements as well as being intensely hydrating.
It is also important that you use cream with SPF as the sun is a big factor in skin dryness and damage, even in the winter.
Step 3. Slather on a Serum
No matter what the climate, skin gets attacked by free radicals causing sun spots, the breakdown of collagen, and premature fine lines (and we don’t want any more of those thank you very much). To prevent the damage and boost the effectiveness of your moisturiser apply an antioxidant serum beforehand. This new one from Clarins looks incredible.
Step 4. Hydration, Hydration, Hydration
As well as your face cream, you need a really good all over body moisturiser which should ideally be applied within a few minutes of showering or washing so that it can lock water into your skin.
Also, remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day. You can get more hydration by consuming a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. A great way to start the day is with a glass of Ginger and Lemon tea.
Step 6. Try a Soothing Face Mask
For those who need an extra boost of hydration then a weekly hydrating face mask can be just the thing.
This new REN Night time Facical mask works overnight to leave skin visibly brighter, more luminous, refined and even toned the next morning. It delivers a 3-phase treatment while you sleep that gently renews the skin, boosts skin cell vitality and infuses skin with plumping moisture.
Step 7. Don’t forget your Hands
As a last step, cover your hands with a lovely thick moisturiser, taking particular care of your cuticles before slipping between the sheets.
Here’s to healthy, hydrated, and happy skin ready for Spring. x
